چکیده

Large-eddy simulation (LES) mainly consists of a “projection”: an effective “truncation” to much fewer modes than what is required to perform a direct numerical simulation (DNS). This can be done in different ways: using a reduced set of discrete field values (formally equivalent to sampling, on the coarse grid, of the continuous DNS field), or using a reduced set of continuous functions, etc. One can also first assume a filtering of the DNS field (using an regular filter of effective width ∆; this is basically the view in the method of finite volumes, where the filter is a top hat of width ∆ = h), but this step is necessarily followed by the projection step. The main property of a projector is that applying the projector twice is like applying it once. Letting ũ be the LES projection of u (i.e., the u field as “seen” on the coarse LES grid), one indeed has that ̃̃ u = ũ: projection is idempotent. The product of the LES fields is also captured on the LES grid. Thus, in LES, one really solves a “tilde” equation (as all terms have the same status):

Differentiation of Edematous, Tumoral and Normal Areas of Brain Using Diffusion Tensor and Neurite Orientation Dispersion and Density Imaging

Background: Presurigical planning for glioma tumor resection and radiotherapy treatment require proper delineation of tumoral and peritumoral areas of brain. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is the most common mathematical model applied for diffusion weighted MRI data. Neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI) is another mathematical model for DWI data modeling. Objective: We stud...

Experimental study and mathematical modeling of thin layer drying of rhubarb (Rheum ribes L.)

In this study rhubarb stem slices were dried as single layers with thickness of 3 mm in the inlet air temperature range of 50-70  and air velocity of 1 ± 0.2 m/s in a laboratory scale cabinet dryer. The effect of drying air temperature on the drying characteristics was determined and the relationship between the drying parameters with temperature and moisture content was examined. Moisture tran...

Bulk viscous string cosmological models in Saez – Ballester theory of gravitation

Spatially homogeneous Bianchi type-II, VIII and IX anisotropic, as well as isotropic cosmological models can be obtained in a scalar tensor theory of gravitation proposed by Saez and Ballester (1986) when the source for energy momentum tensor is a bulk viscous fluid containing one-dimensional cosmic strings. All the models obtained and presented here are expanding, non-rotating and accelerating...

Exact energy and momentum conserving algorithms for general models in nonlinear elasticity

Implicit time integration schemes that inherit the conservation laws of total energy, linear and angular momentum are considered for initial boundary-value problems in ®nite-deformation elastodynamics. Conserving schemes are constructed for general hyperelastic material models, both compressible and incompressible, and are formulated in a way that is independent of spatial discretization. Three...

Effect of Air Velocity and Temperature on Energy and Effective Moisture Diffusivity for Russian Olive (Elaeagnusan gastifolial L.) in Thin-Layer Drying

Thin layer drying of Russian olive (Elaeagnusan gastifolial L.) fruit using a hot air dryer in order to calculate effective moisture diffusivity, activation energy and energy consumption has been evaluated in this article. The selected variables included three levels of air velocity of 0.5, 1 and 1.5 m/s and three air temperature levels of 50, 60 and 70°C. Increased air temperature...
